An inspired group from the Hamilton business community has formed a trust to actively seek funding and commission new and dynamic public artworks for Hamilton.
These art works will become important indicators of the creativity, innovation and inspiration to be found in the city.
Capturing the energy of Hamilton as a growing metropolitan centre, the Trust will draw together businesses and individuals to enrich many meaningful sites with art works that are relevant, engaging and of national artistic significance.
Central to all commissioned works will be the consideration of site and community, ensuring that the highest artistic merit is married with suitability and responsiveness to the proposed site.
Facilitating educational initiatives that support the commissioned art works will be a core component of the Trust’s activity. This will ensure that resources surrounding art are available for Hamilton’s communities and visitors.
The Trust will raise funds from businesses and private individuals to finance the commissioning and purchase of artworks for public and private sites within Hamilton.
The Trust will follow a carefully considered, long-term, art collection plan. This approach avoids ad hoc projects which can contribute to a feeling of fragmentation in public art. Instead, the Trust’s approach will be coherent and considered.
